Tomato Tomahto: A list of dupes

Tuesday, August 26th, 2014

The time has come ladies…and gentleman. Yes, singular, one man if any. Let’s be real, I’m 99.9% sure most of my readers at this point are female. If there happen to be more, then that’s pretty awesome. As the title suggests, the time has come for my list of dupes. This has been a HIGHLY requested post by my subscribers and when I say “HIGHLY requested” I mean, one of my friends said,”Hey, you should do a dupes post!”. So here I am with this post. What is a dupe exactly? Well, there are dew different ways to look at it. 1) according to Urban Dictionary a dupe is simply a duplicate 2) a dupe is a product that is the exact same shade, formula or texture or 3) a dupe is a product that could be interchanged for another at a cheaper price or . Definition 3 is the one I am going with. Some of these products may not be exact in shade or color, but the fact that is is either half the price or more is reason enough to call it a dupe! I tried to cover a full face routine along with some other options as well as products that are very high in demand such as MAC’s Rebel and Nars Orgasm blush(stay tuned to see the dupes). I hope you have your cup of coffee ready along with a good snack because this is going to be a long one!

For a lighter coverage which I prefer for most of my day-to-day routines I typically go with a BB cream. A Beauty Balm cream is going to give you just a bit of coverage while looking very natural. I first tried the Bobbi Brown BB Cream with SPF 35 which retails for $44.00. This is a really good BB cream and I do recommend it, it gets the job done but $44?! I love Bobbi Brown cosmetics but that’s expensive.  THEN I tried this MAYBELLINE Dream Pure BB Cream which retails for $8.49! This particular formula has 2% Salicylic Acid which helps with Acne Treatment. Not that I necessarily have a ton of blemishes but this stuff is just awesome. They have 6 different shades that blend wonderfully. IMG_5992

For my nights out or when I’m taking fashion pictures I like to grab for a medium to build-able coverage. The NARS Sheer Glow Foundation is awesome, it gives a dewy and natural finish but again this is $45.00! The one thing to think about though when picking out a foundation is how much use are you going to get out of it? If you don’t wear it on a daily basis then spending the amount would be a good investment. However, for a very similar finish and just as much bang for your buck, I suggest going with the L’Oreal True match Lumi. It’s $11.79 and does pretty much the exact same thing! IMG_5985

Waking up at 4:30 lately and late nights reading for class, I tend to get some dark circles. One of the most raved about concealers is the MAC Prolong Wear Concealer. This stuff is awesome, it is hard to find a concealer that can cover and conceal but one won’t crease on you. This stuff does all of that at the price of $20.00 which isn’t TOO bad consider there are some much more expensive ones out there. For a cheaper alternative, go with the MAYBELLINE Instant Age Rewind Eraser, $11.79. IMG_5986

Now, to set the foundation and concealer to ensure that it doesn’t move and stays put the MAC Sheer Pressed Powder, $26.00. I’m going to be real honest, don’t waste your money. There are so many other alternatives that are just as good in quality. The RIMMEL Stay Matte Pressed Powder, $3.99. This does the exact same thing for a 1/5 of the cost. IMG_5979

Everyone and their dog has heard of the infamous NARS Orgasm collection. The lipgloss, the lipstick, the illuminator, etc. Well I was able to get a sample of the blush and that’s all I’m going to need because I think I have used it a total of two times. It retails for $30.00 and gives a soft peachy pink touch with shimmer. Again, I have reached for my Milani blush in Luminoso much more often. For $7.99, it gives a lighter look with a bit more peach than pink with the same shimmer effect. IMG_5984

Contouring or bronzing, personally I prefer contouring. It makes the face look slimmer while also warming up the face! Another raved about product is this benefit Hoola Bronzer. It is the perfect bronzer to sculpt your face and is so so easy to blend, at $28.00 this could be yours! Another option would be there NYX Matte Bronzer, $8.99, a little warmer in color but just as blendable. IMG_5983

If you have oily eye lids then I highly suggest priming your eyelids before applying eyeshadow. This will help your shadow color more vibrant, last longer and will prevent your shadows from creasing.  Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden,$20.00, is great for doing all of the things I just listed. To save some money though, opt for the Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow primer. It is a bit darker in tint but it works just as great and the best part? It’s $3.49!

Urban Decay’s Naked palette’s have been acclaimed for their pigmented shadows and awesome colors. Then they came out with the Naked Basics Palette,$29.00, it is great for well, just that, the basics. It’s simple and has 6 colors to choose from that can create a day look or a night time smoky sexy look. NYX is hands down one of my favorite brands out there. They have awesome products for even better prices. The Natural palette has very similar shades as the UD Basics and is so affordable. A palette of 6 colors for $7.49!

A lot of Youtuber’s finish their eye looks with false lashes. I haven’t jumped on that bandwagon yet. I like to save those for special occasions. So for my everyday use, I swear by the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. It is by far the best mascara I have ever used and I’ve used a lot. I’m a mascara whore and I need help. For $23.00, that’s pricey but I will gladly spend the money and repurchase this time and time again. Good thing the drugstore has one that is so very similar in formula and leaves the lashes looking fabulous, L’Oreal Voluminous Miss Manga for $7.99.

Of Course we can NOT forget about the brows. I’ve said this before and I will say it again. Your brows can make a world of difference, for the better that is. This Make up Forever Aqua Brow Gel is really awesome, $20.00. This is a waterproof gel that you apply onto your eyebrows with a small angle brush, MAC has a great one here. Then there is the less expensive route featuring none other than NYX Eyebrow Gel that is also waterproof for only $6.99. Both brands have 4-8 colors to choose from to match with your color of brow. I saved the best for last! Really though I saved it for last because I wanted to make you read everything before this 😉 This dupe is probably my best because it is a cult favorite. Every girl loves this lipstick during the fall times because it is just such a perfect berry color that compliments every skin tone, of course I’m talking about MAC Rebel, $16.00. There are so many lipsticks out there that are so similar in berry tone and the one that I found is Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Sangria. The formula’s are almost identical and the colors are on point!

Continuing with the fall and berry trend and if you are more of a lipgloss girl then bare minerals Marvelous Moxie lipgloss in Stunner, $18.00, is a beautify light-sheer berry color that is great on it’s own or if you want to top off that Rebel lipstick. A great alternative is dun dun dun, NYX Buttergloss in Raspberry Tart, $4.99. It is also a sheer color but a bit more purple than berry but still just as gorgeous!

And that’s all! Man, that was a lot. I appreciate ya’ll sticking around and reading each and every dupe. Let me know if you have any that I didn’t mention. I know there are so many more and I really liked doing this so let me know if you want more options about certain products or would like me to try and find a particular dupe for you!
